Yes :-) barman's review (Jan 11th 2007)
The good news: This is the best in the latest incarnation of bars in this location, unfortunate as it has been since Sambo’s closed. As this once proud bar crawl has become decimated with closures, redevelopment, renewal, and such, few truly dandy experiences remain. Only memories and expectations.
Lefty’s is clean, well laid out, and has up to date TVs and music. The video games are dated. Good acoustics, you can listen to music and your companion and the game at the same time, and generally don’t have to listen to the dude in the next table. The food looks and smells great, a 5.99 steak-and-bake seems like a throwback to the Clinton Administration in terms of value, and the waitstaff is generally friendly. Food service seems prompt. And at least one bartender knows you must let a Guinness rest before you serve it. The couches are a nice touch, as is the fireplace.
The bad news. They don’t have scotch. Their wait staff is not capable of handling a change in beverage. It is a bit spendy. The bathroom is darker than the inside of a cow, trust me you don’t want romance, you just need to see where to pee. Kindly clean it at the end of every shift. The front door is still off its hinges, since like three owners ago. I’m about ready to take my saw and router and fix the damn thing. And have the dumpster emptied. If a guy is over 30, you still might introduce yourself or make some conversation, make friends, make regulars, make money. Guys over 30 with young companions tip. Trust me on that.
So, maybe my complaint is they cater to a very young bar crowd. That’s cool, but as these guys grow up, they’re gonna want something other than Jaeger and beer and their gonna want to bring their babes there. And that will bring some guys. Grow up the bar just a bit more, and it could be the number one northside hang on a strip where historically great hangs occur. Be just a bit better, please?

My first time to the new version of the place. It is supposedly owned by the same people who own Trick Shot Dixie’s, but there is no bar dancing. I found the happy hour prices to be great with several very good food options. We tried the coconut shrimp, teriyaki steak bites and chicken nachos. All pretty tasty and at half off they were only about $3.50 each. I think happy hour lasted until 7, but I’m not sure if that’s every night or not. They also had a drink and food special every night and several looked like really good deals. I would say it’s definitely worth stopping in for at least the happy hour time frame, can’t say anything about dinner though.
