Most people who are aware of Harvest Moon might only be so from passing through Rockford on their way to the CdA Casino. I actually live here, so I really enjoy having a good restaurant that I can walk to in decent weather.

Everything I’ve ever eaten at Harvest Moon has been delicious—the eggs/hashbrowns/toast combo (around $5), the chicken fingers ($7.95), the potato salad ($1.25 for a side, or as a substitute for fries), the hamburger (around $6.50), and especially the cheese steak sandwich ($7.95). Even their black coffee isn’t bad, and still (I believe) only a dollar. Regulars have their own cups hanging on the walls, and they do a breakfast buffet brunch on the weekend (not sure which day, so you would want to call). My husband enjoys their chicken sandwich ($7.25) and my daughter likes their pancakes ($1 for a decent-sized one, comes with a peach slice).

Signs in the booths mention that their beef comes from a farm in Valleyford, with information about what kind of cow and how it is all natural. For anyone who likes knowing where their food came from, that’s nice to have.

The best thing on the menu, as I mentioned, is the cheese steak sandwich. I don’t like my cheese steak sandwiches to be drowning in cheese, and this had just enough Swiss cheese to top the meat without dripping everywhere. The beef is thin sliced and lean, and the green peppers and onions seem fresh. It comes with mushrooms too, but I left those off, so I can’t tell you the freshness of those. Though just the sandwich itself was very filling, it still comes with a mess of fries, or if you prefer, soup, potato salad or a green salad.

Service is prompt and friendly, but not over-bearing. Harvest Moon is well worth the stop if you’re in town.

Anyone that remembers Frankie’s great restaurants in Spokane have to wonder why he’s hiding away in Spangle, but great for us that remember his food, Sunday brunches, and 100% great staff. Not as fancy stuck away in this farm community, but it still has Frank’s touch.
