Yes :-) Remi's review (Mar 10th 2008)

It’s heart wrenching: you’re driving up to De Leon expecting a virtual orgy of tortas, mole poblanos, and whatever other crazy dishes they have prepared, just to find they’ve closed down the kitchen for the night. You can cry, you can scream, and… Well, you probably will, but really, that will not cure your craving for some Mexican delight.

Luckily there is an alternative: Pueblo Amigo has recently opened a few blocks west of De Leon, and it is definitely an acceptable alternative. Granted, it’s not a religious experience, and it is a whole lot more Tex Mex than an authentic south of the border experience, but it’s still pretty damn tasty.

Going with a three taco platter I didn’t expect to get a whole lot of food out of it, buy boy howdy was I wrong. The tacos themselves were huge, served with beans and cheese, rice, salad, and guacamole. I’m not kidding when I say “huge” either, the plate was the size of a pizza pan. De Leon must really have decided to put the Tex in Tex Mex.

And it was good. The meat was nicely marinated, served with a spicy salsa and a good array of greens. Not De Leon quality, yet it still held its own. The fact it was different from De Leon might very well have been Pueblo Amigo’s strength as sometimes you just need more of a sit-down experience with large platters of Tex Mex goodness.

PS: Doesn’t “Pueblo Amigo” mean “Village Friend?” Strange name for a restaurant.

I consider myself a consumer of chile verde. A serious consumer.

I hit Pueblo Amigo for a lunch due to a serious mex jones. I had to have the chile verde.

Great beans, decent rice. Tasty salad. A truly authentic sonoran chile verde, wonderfully seasoned, texture perfect.
Tortilla’s good, a really cool cabbage/pepper/jicama? salsa, along with what appears to be a homemade salsa with the chips to start.Prices are about right, a bit spendy, but I thought good value.

I’ll go back.

Go here.

My fiance and I went the other night, grabbed a couple of margaritas.

I ordered the Carne Asada, served on what would affectionately be known as a “Dub” size plate and fit for a teenager’s car, it was perfectly cooked with four nicely warmed corn tortillas. Upon assembly, it made for the perfect Mexican meal and rival’s De Leon and the Taco Truck in terms of quality.

My fiance ordered the Chile Verde as well. It was delicious, with perfect pork in a tremendous green sauce.

Chips and salsa were delicious, of course. Eating at the restaurant was comfortable and made you feel like you were 100 miles south of the Border.

Let the Division St. border war begin between De Leon and Pueblo Amigo.

No :-( Cyndi's review (Apr 28th 2008)

Not that impressed. Margarita was not good. My husband had the loaded nachos and it was mostly chips and cheese and very little else. I had the sampler plate and it all was okay but not great.
