Located in the old Shack building by I-90 downtown, Linnie’s still serves the classic Shack-breakfast in addition to the thai food. Strange combination? Absolutely, but they have separate sets of kitchen staff handling the two types of food, making it kind of like having two restaurants in one.
While I haven’t tried the breakfast, I am a drooling fanboy when it comes to their spicy authentic Thai food. I’m a fan with anything with peanut sauce on it, and would also highly recommend #18 which is unique to Linnie’s.
There’s a heat index from one to five, and I’d imagine three being just spicy enough for most people. I’m thinking number five would kill the flavor of the food, and you don’t want that, as this is some fresh delicious stuff.
At the 3rd Ave. location, the service was fairly quick and the prices are a bit cheaper than eating at Thai Bamboo and definitely cheaper than Riverview Thai. We ordered phad thai and a dish I can’t remember the name of—had beef, coconut milk, red curry, and bell peppers. I ordered the curry with one star (figuring it being a curry, it would be more like 2 stars), but it seemed to be hotter than the 3 star phad thai. Maybe it just depends on the dish, but we liked all of it and will definitely be back.
The Linnie’s Thai on East 29th Ave in Spokane is the best Thai food in the city.
We went to Linnie’s for prom night and it was great! They treated our group to our own room and took very special care of us on such a great night. Everything was delicious and I’ve been craving to go back since. Definitely recommended.
Appearances are deceiving. Located near Hastings on 29th it looks like nothing special. However their food is great. Our Favorites include the number 18 and 52. They don’t disappoint. All of their curries are great.
Inconsistency rules the day at Linnies, sometimes they are awesome, authentic the best, other times they are in serious need of help.
Their curries taste like they have been prepared with the commercially available Mae Ploy curry pastes, this is a good product, but I would expect that a owner/operator would want to make their own. The noodle dishes suffer from either being to dry or to greasy and the rice has been over and under cooked on the occasions we have been there.
So eating there is really a crapshoot and one that I don’t think is worth the risk. A little east of them is Thai on 1st which is a very good and consistent Thai place, with better service and much better atmosphere.
PS Most people rate Linnie’s as the best in Spokane so perhaps we have only eaten there on off days, I have had some great dishes there so this is a guarded “no” recommendation.
Nice clean and tidy restaurant (on 29th), we were the only people in there half the time (which felt weird, honestly), later joined by two other couples. The rice noodles were perfect (they were complete noodles, not a mashed tasteless mess from Thai Bamboo nearby), we also ordered some secret Thai recipe (they don’t tell you what it is), and it was great too. The Thai tea was also better (not watery) than Thai Bamboo, but still lagging behind “A Taste Of Thai”. But of course Thai Bamboo ambiance (on 29th) is unmatched though.
I’d say Linnie’s Thai matched “A Taste of Thai” (http://www.freewebs.com/atasteofthai/) in food, but had the least charming atmosphere. In fact it’s basically bare walls with little decor, so if you didn’t know you were going to a Thai restaurant, you’d never guess it was one. I can sit for hours in Thai Bamboo just to enjoy their atmosphere and spaciousness, but in Linnie’s you don’t want to stay any longer than you have to.
I’d rate my Thai experiences so far as:
1 – A Taste Of Thai (great food throughout, above average atmosphere, cheap prices)...
2 – Linnie’s Thai (great food, no atmosphere, average prices)
3 – Thai Bamboo (ok food, spectacular atmosphere, slightly higher prices)
I love the food here everything I have had I like the family that runs it are genuinely good people in my opinion very deserving of your dollar.
Best Thai food in Spokane! Love it
Not a bad restaurant—but when are they open? Every time I’ve tried to eat there, they were closed. I’ve tried to find their hours on the web, but they’re not listed. And notice that on this page, the hours are “n/a”. Well, they’re “applicable” to US!
