Yes :-) Jennifer's review (Apr 30th 2006)

Hmmm. How to cap off a day of farmer’s markets, movie matinees, and live music in the park? Thai food of course!

After a full day of trolling for vegetables and loafing around Browne’s Addition, Linnie’s Thai sounded perfect. We risked our lives walking up third street amidst the repaving project and were dutifully rewarded with hot red boxes of the usual: E’s Special Noodles for me and Gai Pahd Peanut Butter for Remi. The walk back to the car and then the drive up Stevens to Pioneer Park at the Corbin Arts Center was pure angony. But it was just too nice outside to spend the evening inside the renovated bowling alley that was formally home to The Shack Restaurant and now houses Linnie’s. Good Thai food and a view sounded like a much better plan.Quite possibly the best Thai restaurant outside of Thailand, the menu includes a wide variety of traditional and not so traditional dishes. Owners E. and Phonesy Muongkhoth take special care to make everyone feel at home. Sometimes to the point of overkill, but we still love the quirky atmosphere. E’s Special Noodles make me happy. And for happy food I can put up with overzealous or ornery relatives any day.

Located in the old Shack building by I-90 downtown, Linnie’s still serves the classic Shack-breakfast in addition to the thai food. Strange combination? Absolutely, but they have separate sets of kitchen staff handling the two types of food, making it kind of like having two restaurants in one.

While I haven’t tried the breakfast, I am a drooling fanboy when it comes to their spicy authentic Thai food. I’m a fan with anything with peanut sauce on it, and would also highly recommend #18 which is unique to Linnie’s. The Jennifer likes E’s Noodles (named after the cook), which she considers to be the best noodle dish in town.

There’s a heat index from one to five, and I’d imagine three being just spicy enough for most people. I’m thinking number five would kill the flavor of the food, and you don’t want that, as this is some fresh delicious stuff.

Linnie’s Cuisine 2 is kind of a surprise up on 29th. I hadnt heard anything about it and didnt really know it was there. So with an open mind I stopped by for dinner.

The food is good and the menu is vast. As long as you are open to Thai or Chinese you should leave happy. The restaurant itself is not in a hot location but it only adds to the charm. I was the only person in the place which makes me feel like I should interact more with my waiter/waitress. I asked my waitress what was good and she bluntly said that everything is good but the way she said it really made me think that she believed it. So I narrowed the menu down on my own. One awkward conversation later I had ordered. Everything comes with rice and some steamed vegetables. I had the Pad Thai which was adequate. It didnt disappoint me but just seemed to lack something. The noodles were the bright spot as they were absolutely perfect.

Linnies is located up on 29th between Great Harvest Bread Co and Hastings. They are open for lunch Mon-Fri and Dinner Mon-Sat.

So whats the dish?: Linnie’s is really more of a Chinese-Thai restaurant then a Thai Restaurant. I wouldnt say its heart-stoppingly good but if Thai on 1st is too experimental Linnie’s is probably a happy median.

At the 3rd Ave. location, the service was fairly quick and the prices are a bit cheaper than eating at Thai Bamboo and definitely cheaper than Riverview Thai. We ordered phad thai and a dish I can’t remember the name of—had beef, coconut milk, red curry, and bell peppers. I ordered the curry with one star (figuring it being a curry, it would be more like 2 stars), but it seemed to be hotter than the 3 star phad thai. Maybe it just depends on the dish, but we liked all of it and will definitely be back.

The Linnie’s Thai on East 29th Ave in Spokane is the best Thai food in the city.

We went to Linnie’s for prom night and it was great! They treated our group to our own room and took very special care of us on such a great night. Everything was delicious and I’ve been craving to go back since. Definitely recommended.

Appearances are deceiving. Located near Hastings on 29th it looks like nothing special. However their food is great. Our Favorites include the number 18 and 52. They don’t disappoint. All of their curries are great.
