You know… Is it just me or has Rock City Grill gone from decent to pretty bad since they moved in to River Park Square? I mean, OK, it never used to be fantastic but it certainly wasn’t too bad as far as American/Italian restaurants go.
Now, however, they’ve turned into something reminiscent of Applebee’s. All of a sudden it’s about the “fun” and the “experience” and the “drinks with way too much food in it.” The place is loud and the decorations are obnoxious. Getting a headache after spending ten minutes in the place is not good.
The food has gone downhill too; my pasta was limp like it had been overcooked for at least five minutes. And trying to mask the fact that there are no real spices and sauces with using too much cheese… Not good.
I’m sure Rock City Grill is an OK spot to go for a happy happy fun time, but for food? No.

At Rock City I had the fish taco. It was actually pretty good. The fish was over cooked a bit but since it was halibut I forgave the chef. It also came with a sauce that I initially thought was a large portion of enchilada sauce. It turned out that it was some sort of beef stew. My guess was that the stew was what made me feel like my stomach had been kicked.
So what’s the dish?: There are more then 15 good restaurants within three blocks of Riverpark Square. I would just venture up the street a bit and stop by Jimmy’z.

We went to Rock City Grill for lunch after church. It was so-so.
Josh: “I didn’t really understand the decor. They seemed to have been confused over what theme they wanted to strive for: Hippie American, or Romantic Italian. And never the twain should meet.”
Traci: “Rock City is fine, but it doesn’t strike me as the type of place I’d want to come back to again and again, on a regular basis. Not like Thai on First. We should have picked Sawtooth. The only reason we’re here is because we don’t come here very often – to mix things up. But I don’t know if we’ll choose that again.”
We split the Tequila Lime Chicken Fettuccine. It didn’t have as much flavor as the name would imply.
We went to Ben & Jerry’s for dessert. Now that’s some flavor!

It used to be that I would reccomend this restaurant. Now I would really only reccomend the pizza, and only then if you were in the area anyway. The rest of the food is mediocre at best, and it seems like the service has gone downhill too. They seem to rush you, yet all while managing to hardly acknowledge you at times. Just waiting for a water refill can take a long time. A lot of times one part of your meal will be good, but the other part not. Take the Asian Fish Tacos—the fish is good. The chili that comes with it is not, nor does it go with the fish at all. It’s sort of taking the fusion thing a bit too far.
However, I whole-heartedly reccomend their Thai Pizza should you get the urge while shopping at RPS.

It seems everyone is knocking this restaurant for mediocre food and service, but you do get what you pay for. It’s also like any other restaurant you find in a mall, so I’m not sure why people would think this place would be any different. If you happen to be in the mall then it’s not a bad choice, but don’t expect anything extraordinary. My favorite thing on the menu is the fish tacos….

Mediocre food, annoying and ugly decor, downright rude and unprofessional wait staff, room temperature is always cold. I will probably not be dining there again anytime soon.

Rock City Grill is one of my favorite restaurants! Anything with the Thai peanut sauce on it is fabulous! It tastes very different from authentic Thai peanut sauce, but it is delicious! Start with the focaccia bread.. a thin, pizza like style crust topped with Parmesan cheese and served with olive oil. We always get great service. Fast and friendly. I am very picky about food and I love this place. Although, to be fair, all I every order is the peanut sauce menu items. On a side note, if you’re a drinker, order the “oatmeal cookie” drink. It tastes just like an oatmeal cookie and it’s freakin’ awesome!

My husband and I frequent Rock City and we love it. Italian Nachos are great and I love the goat cheese pizza. Honestly anything I have ever had there is fabulous. Plus they have Rogue beer on tap, I love that they support local business. I highly recommend it.

I visited Rock City for my birthday, and although it wasn’t my first choice we did have a $15 off coupon. While writing things down may not come off as impressive as remembering your diners’ orders, it doesn’t pay off. I ordered tofu lettuce wraps, and it came with chicken. As a vegetarian, I was miffed, but he did make it right-after saying ‘oh, I thought you just said the lettuce wraps’ and arguing with me. When I finally got the right thing, they were great-along with my sesame crusted ahi. The burnt creme was sub-par, especially for a place that used to have the best in town. The crust was too thin and too burnt, but I guess the person who used to make it well doesn’t work there anymore. The virgin colada I ordered was better than most, because they put fruit juices in with the pina colada mix.
A good restaurant, but my advice—make sure it’s what you ordered before you bite into it.

I thought since Rock City Grill was part of the pretentious downtown mall, it would be good. I was severely mistaken. I’m a transplant to Spokane. I’ve been here for about 3 years. I’ve always wanted to try this place. I went there last night with my husband, and my brother who happened to be visiting out of state. I wanted to take him somewhere cool and hip with good drinks. I ordered an Arizona Watermelon, which was overpriced and did not have enough liquor in it. Their beer selection is somewhat lacking I thought. We ordered the crab dip appetizer for $12.50. I get really excited over crab dip. This was awful, tasting of tuna fish. It is served with soggy limp bread that does not compliment the dip. The portion was stingy, which was ok since it was terrible. I highly doubt real crab, as they indicate on the menu, was used in the dip. We all split a pizza that had some kind of sticky balsamic glaze on it. The pizza was not that great for the price. I prefer Benenditos any day. Overall, not impressed. Our waiter was really nice and friendly, so I will give them props for that. The place was also loud and obnoxious. I will not go back. Very disappointed.

My friends and I go to Rock City quite often. The happy hour in the Blue Martini Bar is great- and it lasts all day Sunday. The thai pizza is the best, and their Chef always has weekly specials that are pretty impressive. The decor has changed since moving to the mall, but the service is still fast and friendly. And it is locally owned, so it definitely beats out all of the chains that are downtown now!

I went there with a group for lunch and ordered the pasta special of the day. It was a greek chicken pasta that sounded really good and light. I am a big fan of olive oil but this was literally swimming. I picked the pasta off the top, but couldn’t finish the rest due to the inch of oil at the bottom of my bowl. Really gross. That, coupled with the fact that the waiter took about 20 minutes running my credit card left me with no desire to go back.
