Coffee and ice cream. Ice cream and coffee. It’s cliche, but nothing beats ice cream in the summertime. Especially when it’s freshly made and flavored with locally roasted Anvil coffee! But then again, the cake batter, licorice, and other mouthwatering flavors are probably just as good.
In the heart of the historic South Perry district, The Scoop serves real ice cream. Real cream. Real fat. There is nothing artificial about the amazing flavors either. This is how ice cream use to be. The rich ice cream comes from The Scoop’s own Brain Freeze Creamery. Each modestly priced cone is the perfect size for licking on the street while watching the traffic go by. Or better yet grab a cone and check out the weekend film at The Shop.Lead scoopers and new owners Andrew Sackville-West and Patrick Sullivan plan to open more outlets in many of Spokane’s neighborhoods. They’ve also commandeered an old International truck to deliver ice cream to the masses at local farmer’s markets, parties, and fairs. Be on the lookout for the old Scoop truck in your neighborhood soon!

Located in the South Perry neighborhood is The Scoop, a shop that serves ice cream the way it should be served: full of fat and flavor. The ever changing selection is full of eclectic choices, including Mexican chocolate with almonds, peanut butter with peanut brittle (from The Davenport), and licorice. Cake mix is probably my favorite, which not surprisingly tastes like just what you’d expect it to. Just frozen. And delicious!

The prices are cheap too, and you can get two single scoop sugar-cones for just over $4. The Scoop is totally the best place to chill down on a hot summer’s day.

With heat like this I’ve been spending lots of time looking for a way to cool off. I was pointed toward The Scoop a few months back. I’ve been a fan ever since.
First thing is that they make awesome flavors. I just had their cardamom ice cream and it was perfect. I’ve been told they are working on a ginger flavor as well as a rhubarb.
Secondly, the prices are more then fair.
I guess I would consider ice cream a kid food. To elaborate, I mean that children enjoy ice cream far more then adults seem to. It’s not that I can’t (or you for that matter) enjoy ice cream as much as children it’s more the children are able to enjoy ice cream without a care in the world. What an admirable characteristic.
So what’s the dish?: I would say that The Scoop is the new heavy hitter on South Perry Street and well worth the visit.

Yes :-) John's review (Jan 9th 2008)
The ice cream at the Scoop is clearly the best in town. But one thing folks may not realize is that these guys have great sandwiches too. My favorite is the mushroom melt: made with grilled mushrooms, melted Swiss and panini’d on Bouzey’s focaccia, served with au jus. I eat too many of these. They’re also serious about their coffee. They are on of the few places on the South Hill that has good drip coffee. Seems like most places (and roasters) focus on espresso only. The Scoop uses Bumpercrop for their drip and Anvil for their espresso. Thank God too—because life was getting rough here for a while after Joe closed his coffee shop.

Gotta love the Scoop. They always have the most unique flavors and concoctions and you get that warm fuzzy feeling from supporting a local entity. I don’t know why they moved from S Perry, and I am surprised they stay in business in this neighborhood locale, but I am glad they do and it’s a nice area. I am very partial to the Mexican chocolate ice cream but have also enjoyed Circus (cotton candy ice cream with Circus cookie bits) and horchata (tastes like a frozen version of the drink—yum). I can’t get enough of the Scoop and drive all the way from the North side frequently. I love the setting and seating and people. If it’s cold out I eat inside but when it’s nice out, outside is the only way to go. I haven’t had the other food or coffees, but maybe one day when I am hungry for more than ice cream.
