No :-( Remi's review (Sep 19th 2005)
Walking into Max we were greeted by the hostess, a young blonde girl in a tight black dress. Nothing strange about that, except that she was busy mopping the floor. This was the beginning of what is one of the more bizarre dining experiences of my life.
Located in the Mirabeau Hotel, Max has contemporary hip interiors, and feels like it should be located in a W hotel. In other words, a stark contrast to Mirabeau which seems like something out of Vegas. I’m not talking Steve Wynn Vegas here, no, this is totally Desert Inn Rat Pack style Vegas, with pastel colors and psychedelia inducing carpets.
The menu is as schizophrenic as the location, with just about every dish ever created listed. One might expect the dessert to be the last items on the menu, but no, not at Max; the desert was promptly followed up by pasta dishes and sandwiches. Just in case you’d like to round out the meal with another main dish perhaps?
But lets forget about the oddities. I won’t even mention the view of the hallway to the pool or the kids walking through there waving to us. No, how about the food? Well…
The caesar salad was more like a caesar soup. Somewhere in the dressing I finally did manage to locate a leaf of salad as well as a couple of croutons, so I guess it technically speaking was a salad. Next time I’d like a spoon with that, please.
For the main course I went with a sirloin, which I ordered medium-rare. It arrived somewhere in the vicinity of medium-plus. The vegetables were a “wondrous” mix of over cooked and raw. In other words – not a great meal.
The prices felt more at home in a W hotel too. Lesson learned? Hip cuisine in the Valley does not exist.

Max is an excellent spot to go for late night drinks and appetizers (half off).
The staff is relaxed and friendly and the atmosphere is inviting.
Try the sliders, hummas and pita, or the coconut chicken. Max has my favorite non-chocolate desert, the Washington Apple Galette. So Good!

I love the MAX for late night drinks and appetizers. Everything is half off and the atmosphere is very cozy. I have never had the dinner there but their appetizers are all delicious!! My favorite is the hummus and pita or the beef skewers.
