Rocky Rococo is a strange pizza chain. There’s about a three dozen of them in Wisconsin, and then one in Spokane. Why the one here? I don’t know, though I seem to remember reading something about Spokanites consuming the largest amount of cheese in the country. That might be all that it takes to get some love and pizza parlors from Wisconsin.
Anyway!
Rocky Rococo makes quite a decent pizza with your average toppings and standard American style crust. The pie, while not in the same league as David’s or Ferrante’s, is certainly a good buy for the price—$13 for a meal that will leave you with leftovers for three days is a good thing.
What does set Rocky Rococo apart from your standard parlor is the salad bar. Not only does it feature a nicely stocked regular selection of fresh lettuce and condiments, it also has a “healthy” section where you can go with more diet friendly options. This is a good supplement or alternative to the greasy pies, and it might just make you feel like a health conscious person after you’ve finished eating. Though probably not.
So the pies are decent, and the salad bar is good. What more can you ask for? Rocky Rococo might not be the best pizza place in town, but it’s still recommended, and the proof that Wisconsin knows how to use their cheese.

Rocky Rococo makes square pizza. Need I say more?
First a little history: In an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Bigfoot, Pizza Hut released the “Bigfoot Pizza in 1993. For those who don’t know, the “Bigfoot” pizza was rectangular and delicious. Bigfoot, on the other hand, is tall and mean. I lived for the “Bigfoot” pizza until about 1996. Ultimately consumers where not ready for such a quantum leap and the “Bigfoot” pizza did not last.
Maybe it was the lack of corners but I have not enjoyed pizza as much since the end of the “Bigfoot” pizza. I can’t remember what exactly made me fall in love with the “Bigfoot” pizza, but true love can be mysterious that way.
Rocky Rococo seems to be keeping the square pizza trend alive in Spokane. I was giddy when I found out I could get a square pizza without the need of a time machine or an oven. I was also pleasantly surprised when Rocky Rococo’s pizza was actually pretty good.
So what’s the dish?: Square pizza is the new black.

A word about the pizza—- It is so heavy with cheese that ordering a medium will feed two people for days! I haven’t tried their pasta, but what I do like to go in for is the salad bar. The warm roll that comes with your salad bar plate is a tasty extra. The salad bar is reasonably healthy, well-looked after (no pieces of food falling in the wrong spots that I’ve noticed, maybe this speaks more of the customers than the staff), and inexpensive. Their beer selection isn’t bad either, and it’s only $2 a bottle for the most part—Red Robin down the road will charge more just for a soda. They are also accomodating to large groups if you let them know in advance.

Well rocky’s pizza is pretty decent (and good to keep you warm on the long ride home back to the east valley on your bike going 50mph on sprague… in late fall, long story but no storage so left overs were between my riding jacket and my chest) and yes you do get a lot of pizza for the price. one last thing the same night in question (as above about the ride) Rockys happens to be the place I met my later to be girlfriend and was actually introduced to her (actually met her a week before at AutoX races but wasnt introduced by a mutual friend) So of course there are special memories associated with the pizza parlor so I give it a Thumbs up
Chicken pizza is good

My husband remembers being a kid and waiting outside for hours to get in and get a slice.
Although the gorilla is missing from the rafters, the salad bar is still great. Fresh and they will get you more of anything you need.
They have coupons too which is good and even deliver to certain areas. Yummy crust.

Rocky’s is our family’s favorite pizza spot!!! That large Sal’s is so freekin’ heavy it’ll fill you up fast and long! And talkin’ about the salad bar…there’s not only salad but nachos and soup too!

Okay I lied, I do not really like Rocky Rococo’s pizza, but it is NOT that there is anything wrong with it. I actually like the concept, the quaint interior, and they seem to have a decent value for the money paid. The people are friendly and the place has always been clean, so what’s my beef.
It’s simply the style of the pizza, very doughy, greasy and overly cheesy that is not what I enjoy, plus the toppings are banal. If you want a comparison think Pizza Hut, if you like their pizza you will Rocky Rococo’s pizza. This is not a put-down just explaining my personal preference.

I visit Spokane a couple times a year and always make a point of stopping in here for a slice of Uncle Sal’s. I got hooked while living in Spokane in the early 90’s.
It may be old style, square, heavy, bad for you, and a heart attack waiting to happen. Yet its insidiously good.
