I recently had lunch with two girlfriends from work. I ordered the clam chowder in a breadbowl, and the others ordered a mushroom sub (sauteed mushrooms served over a piece of french bread with brie cheese on top) and the grilled turkey and apple pita. While I still prefer the clam chowder at Brooklyn Deli, it was still quite good, especially for $4.95.
The entrees were delicious – the mushrooms on the sandwich tasted flavorful, the way properly prepared mushrooms ought to taste – and the optional sides were just enough extra food (french fries, a small version of any of their larger salads, and fruit) without being overwhelming. ($8.95/apiece for the two entrees).
The prices were reasonable, the service was good, the decor…confused me (Asian decor, reds and blacks…I guess I didn’t get it, but that’s okay). Overall, I’d definitely return. The macaroni and cheese made with smoked Gouda is calling me back…

A girlfirend and I went in today for lunch in Cavallino. Very disappointed. The food took 40 minutes to get. She ordered the Mac and Cheese, and I had the Honey Mustard Chicken wrap. We had each ordered a drink to go with our meal, but ended up having to gulp it down and get our food to go so that we could make it back to work. Who wants to pay $8 for a glass of wine that you don’t get to enjoy your meal with?
As for the food, her Mac & Cheese was good… same fare as Zola’s. The sharp cheddar was left out of my wrap and the chicken was a bit dry.
William Webster is doing great things in Spokane, so I’ll probably give him another shot. Wouldn’t go back if it were anywhere else.
