The Dearly Departed even wrote a song about the spot.

Satellite Diner is one of those places where high-school kids go to hang out to feel cool and special late at night. You would think that would make this an irritating place, but the strange thing is that it isn’t. With its good food and friendly service, the Satellite does in fact deserve the good reputation it has.

This is, of course, a diner, but the food is certainly quite a few notches above your average Shari’s. I went with the buffalo wing wrap, or as I like to call it, the greatest invention America has ever made™. Now, most places don’t know how to make a good sauce for the wings, and it ends up tasting like the frozen kind you buy at COSTCO. This is not the case at Satellite where the sauce has a nice homemade flavor, while maintaining a balanced spiciness. Add some beer battered fries and you got a perfect companion to the wrap.

Most anything else I’ve tried on the menu is worth checking out too. The classic cheeseburger, for example, might not be an original culinary creation, but hell, it’s good. And isn’t that what counts?

So I can forgive the emo kids; the blues music drown out their sorrows anyway.

Yes :-) Stefan's review (May 29th 2006)

My Mom always asks me: ?Stefan where do you go when you want good diner food in downtown Spokane?? and I always say: ?the Satellite Diner.?

The Satellite Diner is diner food done right. I?m no expert on diner food but it seems to me that most of the time the food is not a very high quality and that the service is poor (but in an endearing way).

The Satellite Diner proves both these assumptions incorrect. The food is not high quality but it?s assemble matches its quality. The service is also very good, way above average for a diner.

Overall the Satellite Diner is worth a trip. The prices are low and the food tastes good and now that there is no smoking it makes the visit a nice change of pace.

Expect to pay about 8 dollars per person.

So what?s the dish?: Any place that serves Royal Crown Cola is tops in my book.

The only thing that used to keep me from the Sattelite Diner was the smoking, but now that it’s no longer an issue, I can bring my daughter along with me. More importantly though, it means I can have their excellent veggie omelette. Most places call “veggies” a handful of mushrooms, olives and onions, maybe some green pepper and call it good under a bucket of cheese. Not so at the Satellite—I leave off the olives, but I still get green pepper, onion, tomato and alfalfa sprouts, which you would think wouldn’t work, but they do. (I could be missing a veg. here, but it’s been a month or two since I’ve been). The staff actually goes light on the cheese when I ask them to, which is always a bonus in my book. The hashbrowns and toast that come with it are always good, but skip the hummus that inexplicably comes with the dish as well. It’s pretty horrible. Aside from the omelette, my husband has had more than one sandwich there that he’s really liked, and the fries are almost always tasty, not too greasy. Prices are very reasonable as well.

The Satellite Diner is THE place to go for late night dining in Spokane. You may have a small wait after 2:00 a.m., but the wait is worth it for the wonderful tasting food and the very friendly and competent service. Their breakfast burrito is nothing short of superb!

Best of all is the lounge, where you can listen to great jukebox music, enjoy a refreshing libation, and indulge in the tasty and satisfying diner dishes at the same time. The daily specials for lunch and dinner are gourmet and not what you would expect to be served by a diner, but more like high-end bistro cuisine.

Don’t miss breakfast on the weekends because the Satellite offers the freshest and best breakfasts in the city.

Fun place. Good service and good location. My fiance had the patty melt which was really good. Our friends and I had burgers which were pretty decent. Overall a great place to get diner food! Nice they have 2 sections for seating (general diner and lounge)...we sat in the lounge and had a great time!
