No :-( Jennifer's review (Apr 30th 2006)

On our way across the border Saturday morning Remi and I made a quick stop at Jenny’s Cafe in Spokane Valley. Since finishing our late breakfast, I’ve internally debated whether or not to still include the restaurant in Project Spokane. On one hand Jenny’s Cafe does great things for the community, is run by a young entrepreneur, and employs quite a few people. On the other hand, Spokane definitely has better breakfast haunts. I’ve struggled with how to be fair and supportive to Jenny’s Cafe without misleading area diners. Ultimately, I’d hope locals would choose a community restaurant over the other alternatives. Even if better options exist.

What Jenny’s Cafe does well is cater to the customer. I was able to order a two egg omelette “mini” breakfast with half an order of hashbrowns and one slice of toast right off the menu. In addition to low-carb items, I spotted a short note atop the menu letting customers know it was okay to make special dietary requests. It isn’t often that restaurants openly encourage substitutions.Jenny’s is also quick, efficient, and consistent. Even though the open room was packed, the Old Navy cloaked waitresses were on top of everything. Water was filled, orders taken, and food served like clockwork. Jenny’s is a good place to take a large party of extended family members with varying tastes or a sports team after a big game.
What Jenny’ Cafe doesn’t do well is the food. Everything on my plate was undercooked. The omelette still wet, the very roughly chopped bell peppers and onions still crisp, the hashbrowns mushy. Even the toast was barely toasted. Meals like this just happen sometimes.

This Project Spokane post is part of an ongoing series.

No :-( Bitzer's review (Jun 13th 2007)

I worked at Jenny’s for a very short time. If you could see what the kitchen and how they kept their food you would NOT eat there. While the staff is mostly family and friendly I do not know how they stay open. They have choices but someone needs to clean the place and teach them how to cook breakfast. The easiest of all meals to do.

No :-( Stephanie's review (Jul 22nd 2008)

We are fairly new to the area and have been looking for good restaurants, we have found a few. My husband, myself and our daughter went to Jenny’s for breakfast after seeing the TV advertisement for all you can eat hash browns (my favorite breakfast dish). I am sorry to say that we will not be returning. I ordered a simple ham & cheese omelet. I only ate a few bites; it tasted like Bologna – it definitely was not real ham. The hash browns were cold, the Sausage & Biscuits had no sausage in it, was made from a powder didn’t have much flavor, though the biscuits were good. After paying the bill for food that was not eaten, as we were leaving we noticed that the entry way had not been cleaned probably in months it had dust, candy and other garbage on the floor. If they can’t clean the lobby area then I can just imagine what the kitchen looks like. I am a firm believer that you can judge a businesses cleanliness by how clean the bathrooms and entry ways are. I don’t mean to be harsh but I just don’t think that it was a good experience, we ended up going back home and cooking something to eat.
