For a city its size, Spokane has a remarkably large number of distinct neighborhoods and funky enclaves. I’m partial to Browne’s Addition but there are more special communities here than most residents realize. Garland. Millwood. Cannon’s Addition. Hillyard. The U-District. Lincoln Heights. Peaceful Valley. The Tasty Triangle. Manito. And, of course, South Perry.

Lately, I’ve found myself pulled in by South Perry’s magnetism. Nothing beats a summertime cone from The Scoop and an outdoor movie at The Shop. I’m transfixed by the Buddhist temple and Lorien’s windmill. I promise myself to visit Liberty Park Green House every spring. And if in need of a people watching fix, I’d be pressed to suggest a better place than Hai Mini Mart. With the recent addition of Junebug’s Cafe, South Perry has become a functional, thriving neighborhood. In other words, if Grant Elementary offered me a teaching position it would be impossible to turn down.Imagine walking to The Shop every morning for my cup of coffee. Knowing how to open the front door without glancing at the directions. Having the guys behind the counter ask if I wanted “my regular.” Scanning The Spokesman while I sipped my latte and prepared for the day. Imagine watching the Anvil Coffee roasters and rubbing elbows with the creative types on red couches. I could definitely handle working in this neighborhood. I could definitely handle the perfectly ethereal coffee.

Super Yes!! to “The Shop”.. ‘Family’ and ‘leave me alone, I’M NOT HERE TO CHIT-CHAT’ friendly. I love this place every time I go..A bonus…All the guys are cute, and you can almost always run into an owner while visiting..I strongly recommend going there every day for your morning, noon, and evening drink and delicious food (hot panini, wonderful salads, and good to the last glop soup)fancy..
