Last week I visited an old favorite across the border. I attended a short conference in Coeur d’Alene and Thursday morning I found myself exiting the freeway and stopping at Little Seattle Coffee Bar on 4th Street. When I was in college, Remi and I visited Little Seattle quite often. It was there he first discovered his love for chai lattes and I resurrected a long suppressed addiction to coffee. At least once a week I’d stop in on the way to my internship a few blocks away. Back then it didn’t take long to go through my stamp card! Then we stopped going. Not sure if graduation or a move west was to be blame, but Little Seattle stopped showing up on the short list.

So it was fun to go back last week and check out the bean scene. The same Abercrombie boys were holding court in the rear while an old woman bundled in heavy clothes stopped in to warm herself at a small table near the door. A friendly barista promptly put together a caramel latte to-go while I glanced at the knickknacks for sale and the local artwork on the walls. Even though it had been a few years since I had grabbed a latte at Little Seattle, not much had changed.My paper cup of locally roasted DOMA coffee arrived warm and toasty. It smelled slightly of rich chocolate and was frothy and full bodied. Although a bit weak for a double shot, Little Seattle presented a pleasant morning cup of caffeine. It was nice to visit such a comfortable old pal.
