Around here Sunday mornings are for reading the newspaper. Nothing beats lazing around bed surrounded by newspapers. I love the way the black ink stains my fingertips and smudges everything I touch. I even secretly smile when Sammy decides he wants to rustle through the metro section and then take a nap atop the rubble. The only thing that makes Sunday morning newspaper time better is a great cup of coffee. Here’s where Yoke’s Fresh Market comes in handy.

So often grocery and box store coffee stands begin as independent businesses but soon become subsidiaries of Peet’s, Seattle’s Best, or Starbucks. At Yoke’s the coffee stand is still employee owned and operated. And they only use locally roasted beans from Cravens Coffee. It only makes sense to include the small stand in Spokane Bean Scene.As with most small coffee bars, a lot depends on the barista working behind the counter. This appears to be the case at Yoke’s. I’ve been served wonderful iced and hot lattes here, but I’ve also received poor service. Generally, a smile and very specific instructions seem to improve the coffee outcome. Even though the coffee can be unpredictable, it is hard to beat the convenience of Yoke’s in Argonne Village. Where else can you pick up a loaf a bread, newspapers from around the region, and a solid coffee to go?
