Yes :-) Remi's review (May 3rd 2006)
I have in best Peggy Hill style credited Tacos Tumbras for starting the authentic taco revolution in Spokane, an innovation that quickly spawned imitation. Imitation so good it could be argued it surpassed the original innovator. Guerrero, El Mercado, and the transplanted De Leon all serve up awesome products in brick and mortar locations, giving them a distinct advantage over Tumbras’ trucks during these cold winter months.
In my mind this is why Tumbras recently opened a shop in an actual building on Sprague; trucks are great and flexible until three feet of snow hits the ground and you realize we’re not in California (or indeed Mexico) anymore. Convenience then is now decidedly on Tumbras’ side, yet that’s only part of the picture. More important is their expanded menu which now consists of a handful of new authentic items as well as a designated “gringo” portion.
I kind of wish I had tried something from the new selection (how bad could the chili rellenos have been?) but now and again the traditionalist in me comes out. That’s not to say there haven’t been any changes to Tumbras’ tacos which now can come served as a platter. Three tacos, beans with queso fresco, and rice for just above $5? Deal of the century if you ask me. (And you do.)
A liquor license for beer and wine has also been plastered up in the window, meaning we can test the elusive “beer+tacos=:)” theory in the future. For now you can enjoy some agua frescas which in my populist opinion are delicious, as well as a large array of Jarritos.
I’m not sure wether Tumbras is the best Mexican place in Spokane anymore, but the fact we can actually have that debate is a nice step forward. I’ll be back anyway, as the tacos are delicious.
(Here’s my original review, just for giggles:)
If you’re looking for the perfect traditional Mexican taco in Spokane then Tacos Tumbras is the place to go. A couple of corn tortillas topped with some asada meat and freshly squeezed lime juice might sound simple, but the flavor rush you get from it is everything but.
Yet if you want to graduate to the harder stuff, there is always the condiments bar. Pickled onions, peppers, carrots, beets and other vegetables and salsas let you spice up the tacos to whatever level you prefer. This is what makes the traditional taco great; the combination of vegetables you use with the core ingredients can drastically alter the dining experience. And at Tacos Tumbras the experience is always great.
My recommended combination of tacos is two carne asadas (marinated and grilled meat basically) and one lengua (tongue—nowhere as bad as you might expect.) The flavor fest that provides is second to none.

Yes :-) Sara's review (Jun 6th 2006)
After hearing plenty about this taco truck from various sources, I finally got around to trying it with my 2 year old last weekend. I asked her what she wanted and she told me “Chicken,” so we went with two beef tacos and one chicken and we were not disappointed. I half-expected the chicken taco to be mostly dark meat, but there were only a few dark meat pieces that my daughet happily ate. My beef tacos came piled high and were definitely delicious. I liked having the fresh cilantro, and the spicy sauce cup I filled was almost a sweet-spicy. My only regret is not picking up enough napkins because they do make your hands a mess by the end of it. Even though they had a long line of people, service was fairly fast.

Having read Remi’s review, I tried this taco truck and found the walla walla sweet tacos (steak and onions, with lime) to be great. Unfortunately, on my return trip, our burritos failed to please – bland, mushy texture, and indifferent.
But the tacos were good enough for me to give this a :-). Just order with caution.
No :-( Phil's review (Oct 28th 2006)
I’m not sure how to put this delicately, so here goes… I tried Taco Tumbras for the first time this week (the Division location). It was around noon and I arrived just behind a group of eleven young men. There were several other people milling around who were waiting for their orders. After the young men made their orders I ordered just two, two taco combo meals. The end of the story is, I waited a solid 40 minutes for my food, and in that time the group of eleven young men had ordered, received, and eaten their food TWICE (yes, they all ordered a second time). There were some other people waiting as long as I was, and they were getting equally annoyed. I can’t begin to explain why they took 40 minutes to put out my simple order, but I do know I’ll never go back. If it was just my order I’d chalk it up to a simple oversight, but I’m convinced it wasn’t. Sure, the food tasted fine…but by that time I couldn’t even enjoy it. I can’t remember the last time I’d had worse service.
Yes :-) thoughtful's review (Sep 22nd 2006)
We tried Taco Tumbras on Division today for lunch. After reading the glowing reviews, I wasn’t disappointed at all! I had chicken tacos with rice/beans and Spencer got the beef tacos. Beans had good flavor and were topped with Cotija cheese, but were pretty watery (C+), the rice was also was good© but not great. The chicken tacos were the star (B+ for meat, A for the fresh steamed tortillas) with decent flavor, and nicely tender w/o too much fat. I tried the really spicy avocado sauce on one and the moderately spicy red sauce on the other. I’d say the red might be more geared towards beef, but the avo was slammin! I’ll try them with the tomatillo sauce next time, which I expect will bring more interesting flavor to the chicken rather than just heat. Spence loved the beef tacos, and has been making comments all afternoon about going back. That’s a pretty good sign.
So…Fast and friendly service, not too much of a line at 1:30pm on a Friday. Damn good food. There you have it.

Tacos Tumbras makes excellent Mexican food. They are usually parked just north of the appliance store. They also have a truck near the Costco & Home Depot in the Valley (West of the Broadway exit.)

I use to stop by the Division street location at least 3 times a week on the way to work. But it has disappeared! Does anyone know where it went?
