Yes :-) Sara's review (Jun 10th 2006)
When Jennifer put out a call to review diner food, and as I’m slightly obsessed with a certain burger there, I wanted to go to Wall Street Diner.
At first, I thought I should try something other than the Sourdough Burger there. You know, try out a breakfast food. Isn’t that all people order at diners anyway? Well, I tried. I considered several of the different scrambled egg dishes, but when I get the idea to go to Wall Street Diner, it really means I’m getting the craving for a burger covered in dijon mustard, tomato, swiss cheese and sauteed onions inside two crispy slices of sourdough.
The fries are quite good as well—- not too salty, not too skinny so they don’t get soggy as they lose temperature. My only complaint when it comes to the burger is that sometimes there’s too much dijon mustard and it can get quite messy to eat if you’re not careful. I didn’t finish all of my fries though—- I was full rather quickly, as I tend to be when I have cheese (lactose-intolerant), but it is worth taking my lactaid for the swiss-goodness.My husband, wanting to get something other than a burger for the purposes of this review, decided on the taco salad, since he’d never had it there before. It came with two separate small bowls of sour cream and salsa, which he liked. “You can mix it how you want,” he said. However, while the sour cream was very good, the salsa was a bit mediocre. The beef was lightly seasoned and there was actually enough lettuce in there to justify calling it a “salad,” but at the same time there wasn’t an entire head of iceberg in there either. The outer shell didn’t get soggy from all the ingredients and was apparently quite tasty on its own.
My daughter had grilled cheese with smiley face fries. Now, while the bread is homemade and the fries are cute—To me, $3.99 is a touch on the spendy side for grilled cheese. I mean, I will pay it cos the girl’s gotta eat and it’s definitely cheaper than our meals ($8 and some change for both), but it sort of seems like a rip-off when chicken fingers can cost the same as a slice of cheese on a kid’s menu. Still, she enjoyed dipping her sandwich in ketchup and taking one bite out of every single smiley face and only finishing a few. We ended up taking half the sandwich to-go, but that’s the nature of eating with a 2 year old. She liked having a few pieces of the taco salad shell as well.
When it comes to the service at Wall Street Diner, it can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are very attentive and then sometimes you get your food and that’s it. This time we experienced the latter. It’s not that I particularly needed anything, but a “How’s everything?” at some point would have been good. It felt like we had to wait to pay quite awhile, as though they weren’t really paying attention to how far along in our meal we were. I suppose that’s one way Wall Street really is like a standard diner. Aside from that, I suppose “diner” is sort of a loose term. Yes, it is diner food, but the quality is much better than, say, Shari’s. You pay a bit more for that quality, but it is well worth the visit. Based on previous visits, Tyson would also reccomend trying the “Spicy Lumberjack.” I also tried a roast beef sandwich there before that I found quite good, and normally I’m not a huge roast beef fan. It helped that it wasn’t lunch meat-style roast beef. Still, I always go back to that sourdough and swiss burger. One day, I will actually try those scrambles I consider.

That sourdough burger, what can I say? That’s what I have almost everytime I go there. Crispy grilled bread and lots of dijon. I love it. My daughter Amanda says the chicken strips are really good, and she loved the smiley fries. The service was good, he took our order, got our drinks, and kept checking on us. All in all, a good diner experience.

The eggs benedict is the best! If you’re trying to go on a weekend morning prepare for a wait. But well worth the wait!
Yes :-) Janessa Todd's review (Apr 18th 2008)
Other than the sometimes-clueless waitstaff, this place rocks. It is surprisingly little-known, as we are total foodies and just recently discovered it. Now it’s in the regular rotation.
So far I have had the veggie omlette and the veggie scramble, both of which were too large with all their acoutrements to be consumed in one sitting. The omlette was a little bland, but the scramble was incredible. I plan to try the veggie sandwich (I am veg) next.
Do not even think about leaving without ordering the cranberry peach cobbler! Make sure you order it warm and a la mode. Trust me, it’s the best part of going there and well worth the price.
