What is a diner? For me, its a place I can go and just eat. Somewhere I don’t have to worry if I am dressed right or wrong, if I am alone or with someone, just somewhere to eat. So, this morning I choose Fergusons. When I first sat down I thought I should observe everything, play restaurant critic. What the decor is, was I seated promptly, what type of clientle. I soon realized, it doesn’t matter. I am in a diner, the ultimate American comfort place. So, I won’t go into all of that.

Looking over the menu, I decided on Smokey Joes scramble. Longhorn sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and the three cheese blend. Of course, served with hashbrowns and toast. In about five minutes, my food arrived. After the first bite, and seasoning it to my taste, I knew I had a winner. It was exactly what I wanted. And isn’t that what a diner is about?

Good food, done with out flash. Quick service , and a comfortable surrounding. For me, a good diner is like eating at Mom’s house. Except I don’t have to do the dishes.

In my opinion, it’s hard to find a local diner that serves a better meal. Everything I’ve ever gotten there was top notch…and lots of it! Joy of joys, but I actually made it in on a Wednesday recently for lunch and got to try their Pot Roast Blue Plate Special. YUM!

If you didn’t already know this, this is the diner where a couple of scenes from Bennie & Joon were filmed (a la Johnny Depp’s dancing dinner rolls). A couple of other movies were also shot there, but I haven’t seen them (the posters are on the wall, though). If you’re in the Garland District and jonesing for a hearty breakfast or lunch, you can’t go wrong with Ferguson’s.

The two times I have been in here, I was extremely unimpressed. Last time we went in, the service was so awful we didn’t even leave a tip. Come later to find out, our server was the owner! He should be the most appreciative of his customers. It seemed like he just wanted everybody out. I won’t ever go back there. The food was disgusting.

My favorite diner in the world! Not only is the food delicious, but anywhere that Johnny Depp has been is good.

apart from being a little cold when i went in, (I AM weather challenged so pay little attention to that small detail) this was hands down a great belly stuffing breakfast.

Browns are what i rate a breakfast by, they have to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and every time without fail they deliver here. I also like the fact that the owners use local suppliers. the bacon is just like i would use at home, ditto for the sausages.

I did notice that the don’t use 4 seasons coffee anymore, but it’s still a local supplier and it’s good. Add to that being the coffee junkie that i am, they are very attentive to my addiction. Did i mention great service as well?
