I can’t figure it out. Spokane is slowly getting some great restaurants. Some of these new restaurants are as good or better then similar concepts in Seattle and beyond. So why is it that people keep going?
Clinkerdagger’s was recommended to Crystal and I when we first moved to Spokane. After eating there we were a little worried that Clinkerdagger’s might be the best restaurant in town. We decided that we would only go to restaurants we had not been to for one month. It was tough and we ate a lot of bad food but we found some gems.
Clinkerdagger’s serves bad food. Or at least food I don’t like. I think the sauces are prepackaged and the sides taste like they came from a cafeteria. If that wasn’t enough it’s also expensive.
Maybe I am alone in this but I just don’t get it. Does anyone out there actually enjoy Clinkerdagger’s?
So what’s the dish?: All I can say is I don’t get it.

Amen. I don’t know anyone who really likes this ridiculously overpriced place. Maybe it was good a long time ago (my parents used to like it in the 80s) but I think they should have demo’d it when they expanded the convention center. Maybe that’s how they’re surviving now is the captive convention audience.

I think Clinks is a great place to go get a cocktail some appetizers and gossip with girlfriends. I think the french onion soup is fabulous.
I will agree that it is spendy!

I ate at Clinkerdagger’s for the first time in early October. I fully enjoyed my experience. The waitstaff were excellent and the food was amazing. I had the best prime rib I’ve had in my life, served with great fresh grated horseradish. I’m planning to return tomorrow night.

I ate at clinkerdagger for the first time about a month ago. They are a bit spendy, but the food was good. The view was also good. The waiters were nice, though a bit long winded.

I love Clinkerdaggers when my husband (who is a native Spokanian) lived there in 2005. I thought the food was pricey but delicious. I felt that the waitstaff was wonderful. I am surprised to read a review that the food “is bad” because that was not my experience.

In my experience, the food is always great, the service excellent and they validate parking. I have lunch out at least once a week and this is a great place for a weekday lunch.

Clinkerdagger’s is one of those Spokane institutions. You always know what you are going to get. I personally love the place. The service is always excellent, and the food is consistently good. It is an old standby.

This used to be a great restaurant. Now everything is a la carte and tasteless. There are much better choices in Spokane these days…except for the view.

I always have a delicious meal here! Request to sit outside, high above the rushing water on a warm day. You can’t beat the feeling of the powerful water. The garlic butter bread that is served complimentary is wonderful. I agree that the vegetable sides are just OK, but the main meals I’ve had are delicious!

This place was the bomb in the 70’s and 80’s when it was new. It was actually a chain restaurant that had chapters in quite a few west coast cities. For its time it was hip and trendy. While every other member of the chain closed down in the 80’s the Spokane chapter plugged along due to its original great impression and the fact there were still few dining alternatives.
The Spokane Location was sort of a gem as it was a “big city” restaurant in an otherwise still smallish town with few culinary choices. The physical location on the River in the historic flour mill makes it a winner for romantics and tourists alike.
Now days its been around so long its a mainstay, and most don’t remember the chain roots of this place. But unfortunately like most mainstays it lives on due to its historic reputation and less on its culinary innovation.
My latest take is that its a great location with safe, average food choices. It’s not a place for foodies in Spokane’s culinary awakening. But it is a safe place for those who enjoy an interesting location and decent food.
