No :-( Greg's review (Nov 26th 2006)

I had planned on taking a date to Commellini’s tonight. Actually, I did take her there after calling to check what their hours were. “We’re open until nine.” I then confirmed I wouldn’t need a reservation. Well, upon arriving at eight (after the 20-odd minute drive) the hostess informed me that the kitchen was closed and that they couldn’t serve dinner. The owner then came out and explained the chef was gone for the night having closed the kitchen and leaving early due to it being “slow”. So at eight on a Saturday night, I was unable to get the dinner I had planned. The nonchalant attitude of the owner, who basically shrugged his shoulders, was rather flippant (“Well, dinner is not going to happen tonight.”), and totally NOT apologetic made the evening even worse. Again, all this after I had called to confirm the hours and had driven 20 minutes to get there. Not sure how this is considered customer service, but I don’t plan on going back.

No :-( Marty O's review (Dec 1st 2006)

I echo Greg’s sentiments. I’m especially frustrated because this used to be one of my favorite special places for dinner. I was supremely disappointed the last two visits due to mixed up orders, slow service and food that had completely lost it’s former quality.

No :-( Thomas's review (Dec 6th 2006)

I concur with the other reviews. Commellini’s is a waste of your money and time. I was there on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was mostly empty, and we were seated in room with a loud party. Not the way to have a romantic meal for two. It could have been worse, we were initially offered seating right by the front door.

The service was poor and the food was inedible. I have a huge love for calamari and I was served the worst calamari I have ever had. The cioppino? Don’t try it unless you live for salt.

I won’t be back to Commellini’s, not even if you are buying.

No :-( sharon's review (Sep 24th 2007)

this was a big dissapointment. Having heard about it and nothing but rave reviews, i was not impressed at all. The new chef has no imagination. The hostess no personality, and i would like to be served by someone just out of junior high. I have had better service, ambience and italian at other restaurants. You guys need to clean up your act.

Yes :-) Mary S's review (Nov 23rd 2007)

I would help if these reviews were dated because this place has a new owner. We went there and I thought it had a certain amount of charm due to the little river local and the history of Jack and Bobby Kennedy dining there with frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe. The new owner has made some improvements, but more is needed. The lazanga is good, (not the best I ever had but still acceptable) but the fish was terrible. I give it a thumbs up with a warning, do not order the fish. Stick with the basic spaghetti or pasta dishes. The stuffed mushrooms are excellent for appetizers, and the new owners have renamed the bar the “Speak Easy” going back to the dirty 30’s era.
Go once, but just for the drive and experience, then decide for yourself if you want to go back. I say once in a while and my husband says not…
