Remi and I were flipping through a copy of Idaho Cuisine when we stumbled across a full color advertisement for 2b Cafe in Hayden. Assuming it was newish, I tucked the spot away and figured I’d stop in next time I found myself north of Coeur d’ Alene. That was three months ago.

Apparently, like me, most of northern Idaho also considers 2b Cafe new. On a quick afternoon visit last week, the young lady behind the tiled counter noted it was a common mistake and the cafe has in fact been open for two years. So much for being in the know!

2b Cafe is cute. Wooden privacy booths. Tiled floors. High ceilings. Warm paint. A Kees van der Westen Mirage machine.

The locally roasted DOMA coffee was tasty. Although, for a dry cappuccino our cups were a little on the heavy side. And as always, I get a little testy when I can’t order my coffee in an eight ounce cup. Even if you don’t have the cup, it should be easy to do.

I too never knew it was there… We had coffee and some breakfast items. They also provide the food for Rusty’s Bar in the same building. The menu is good, but the food is horrible.

The food has improved quite a bit in the short time I’ve gone to 2b. Try the french dip.

I had a delicious oriental salad. The servers, John and Katie, gave the restaurant a fun and friendly atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
