Taqueria Guerrero might very well be the restaurant that dethrones Tacos Tumbras as the best Mexican food in Spokane. It’s not a truck, but definitely warrants an inclusion in Project Taco Truck as the tacos are authentic and, at $1 a piece, cheaper than any of those you find anywhere else in town. And oh are they tasty.

Being served in more of a restaurant setting (though “shack” might be a better monicker) the menu also extends beyond your standard Mexican finger food, including a steak ranchero which I didn’t try, but which looked amazing. The refried beans are great too, and makes for a good companion to the tacos which are available with whatever type and style of meat you’d expect (asada, lengua, etc.)
To top it off, the service is very friendly, and although the food takes a bit longer to be served than your average taco truck, it is worth the wait.
Taqueria Guerrero is taco truck quality food served in a restaurant like setting. Go check it out.
I made the trek to try out Guerrero on Friday—it was very very good. Definitely on par with the taco trucks. I think I slightly preferred their pork and asada tacos, actually, but slightly prefer the chicken at Tacos Tumbras. The gordita at Guerrero was pretty darn good too. And the prices are definitely right.
It’s pretty darn tough to get me out to the Valley (especially when Tacos Tumbras is that much closer)—but if I’m out that way I’ll definitely make time to stop there. I’d like to try the entrees some time. Camarones al Diablo!! How very evil.
I hope that everyone who reads this makes the trip to this little Taqueria. The food is really good. I’d say its quite literally some of the best Mexican I’ve had outside of California – which after I spoke with the owner would make sense, they’re from LA!
For lunch on Sunday, we stopped in and had a chicken and beef taco, a chicken tamale and the chicken enchilada platter with verde sauce (which includes 3 large enchiladas with rice/beans). Spencer sucked down a couple of Dos Equis, while I had the best Horchata I’ve ever had. Period. Horchata is a Mexican rice drink made with almonds (or Chufa nuts) and cinnamon. Highly recommended. The tacos were pretty good – and only $1. I liked my chicken taco better than Tacos Tumbrus, but Spencer liked his beef better there. The tamale at $1.50, was the third best I’ve had in WA (1st place would be Taco Lobo in Bellingham, 2nd is a mom & pop stand the sells at all the farmers markets around Bellevue). I probably would have scored it higher, but it was a little thin on size, the masa a little too wet and the meat just a little too salty – but it was still really good. The enchiladas were pretty tasty and topped with sour cream and lots of Cotija cheese thankfully not drown in the sauce. The rice and beans were both good but lacking a little in flavor – we’ll ask for cheese on the beans next time. Another note would be that we missed the condiments that were available at the taco truck as we only got a medium red and very mild green sauce on the side and we both like really hot sauces and fresh salsas.
So…All this food with two beers, a soda and two cups of Horchata only came to $18. We will definitely be back again!
I am so glad I found this place, the food and service are awesome, the prices are cheap. If you have hungered for true Mexican food in Spokane, this is the place to go.
This is also my favorite mexican place in town. I have to say though, get the tamales. They are so good. If you are hungry get the large burrito. And take whats left home with you for dinner. The owner is a really nice guy too!
Hands down the best authentic (i.e. not dripping with cheddar cheese) mexican food I have had in Spokane (to be fair I haven’t eaten from the taco trucks). My wife and I have been here probably 30 times and the quality is consistent which makes sense since it’s the same lady cooking all the time.
This is my favorite restaurant in Spokane if I were simply choosing based on the food.
I highly recommend the carne asada tacos as well as the red pork burrito ($4 and my go to favorite).
Friendly service, but if you go during a busy time I recommend calling in your order 10-15 minutes ahead of time as there’s usually only the cook and one other person working.
When my wife and I were searching for a place to live in San Francisco there were a few things we were looking for in our new neighborhood. First, we needed fresh produce within walking distance. Second, we needed to be able to park our cars within a few blocks of our apartment. And third, and maybe most important of all, we needed a good taqueria that served filling, tasty burritos and tacos for about $5 a person.
We’ve lived in Spokane for 3 years now and hadn’t found a replacement for that wonderful little taqueria in the Inner Sunset. Until now. Taqueria Guerrero is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Service is prompt and friendly. Prices are dirt cheap. And, they understand that for tacos and burritos simple works best. The adobada is perfectly seasoned (and goes very well with their salsa verde). You can easily get out of there for $5 a person. My kids loved eating on the bar stools at the counter and the tv is always playing some funky Mexican musical variety show. Awesome place!
