Hours: Tue-Sun 7am to 2:30pm
I suppose I just don’t see the allure.
It’s not that I’m broken hearted for what Perry Street Cafe could have been, and that could frankly have been quite something. The exposed bricks, the ceiling… With a bit of of TLC and creative decorating, this could be a unique and cool diner, something along the lines of Satellite Diner.
Instead the interior is a mess. A combination of cheap looking tables and chairs—not that cheap is bad, it could be cool if done right, which sadly isn’t the case here—a floor that reminds me of my elementary school in 1984… Yes, I know they are going for an elementary school theme, but really. There are better ways of achieving that goal, than a generic messy 80s look.
Of course, the point is moot when the food isn’t up to scratch. And it isn’t. The so-called “fluffy” pancakes were dense and brick-like. No amount of butter and syrup could hide that fact. The bacon? Charcoal strips. At least the over-easy egg came as advertised. That wasn’t enough to save a dire breakfast however, one that sat heavy in the stomach for hours afterward.
It’s somewhat of a tragedy that Junebugs couldn’t survive in the Perry Street district, when this place is doing booming business. I’d rather go to IHOP than return to Perry Street Cafe.
Nice to see a new restaurant in the Perry Street area. Great breakfasts served all day. (Being a late riser this is a big plus.) I tried an American style breakfast with toast – very tasty. I liked that the toast had real butter instead of a swipe of grease over bread. Home fried potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese all rated high.
Fast and friendly service and lots of coffee refills. The owners cook and wait tables, have lots of personality, and are fun. Maybe the reason the quality is high.
Will go back for lunch. Saw a home made chicken pot pie I need to try!
In my opinion, this is the best food in town. Owners teat the customers like royalty and I shall return again and again.
Thank you!
I love this place. It is a restaurant based on old time diner feel with authentic pictures on the wall and a very friendly staff:-)
Fabulous breakfast, and service you can’t beat. The meal arrives hot and tasty, coffee is good, the potatoes (or “taters” as the waitress calls them) are wonderful, and last but not least, the place is CLEAN!!! I hope people support it, so it stays in business. Definitely a positive addition to the Perry District, and the South Hill as a whole.
It’s good food and it’s cheap—my husband, daughter and I ate there for $20 with a generous tip. I really like that breakfast is served all day, and even though they forgot the tomatoes on my omelet, it was still pretty good. The turkey sandwich uses real turkey (a mix of light and dark), not lunch meat, and there are several good and inexpensive options on the kids menu. As a personal taste, I could have done with less real butter, but that’s not a complaint against the restaurant, and I’m sure it’s a bonus to a lot of people. The service was good and pretty quick, and I’m sure we’ll be back.
Great, inexpensive old-fashioned diner food. The service is the kind you only get in small places where the server has a vested interest. The salads aren’t great, but the breakfasts and sandwiches are delicious. I just wish they were open later- they close around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
Down home breakfasts, cozy atmosphere, down-to-earth waitresses, great prices…..FINALLY an all-around superb breakfast restaurant that was sorely needed on the South Hill!!!!
Perry Street Cafe…what can I say? They immediately worked their way into my family’s hearts. Open since October of 2006 we didn’t check them out until January 2007 and haven’t gone anywhere else for breakfast since. I am a stay at home mom and the owners treat my children like their own. The food is amazing and pleasantly filling (I have a hard time finishing what they dish, but still can’t stop myself from trying!) I LOVE the homemade everything (except the baked beans, one of the owners is happy to point out), and with a family of four on a budget the amount of food combined with the prices are UNBEATABLE.
The only two bewares I give you are: the more you go in, the more addictive it becomes, and for those in the neighborhood, a walk’s distance away, that can be dangerous. Secondly, if you go in too often you may be offered a job, if you ask nicely, and speaking from experience…that really is not a problem (unless you want my job!) I felt like a part of the family before, and after I worked there. Welcome all! The customers make the place as much fun as the staff. Thank you to the owner’s for adding even more to the Perry District. We are all so fortunate!!
Yes the food is good, the place is clean,...... but I wish the owners would stay away and let the employees do their job. I waited fifteen minutes to order before “the owners” stopped visiting with a more valued guest and came over to get my order. They knew I was there, the wife took me to my table!! They are loud and obnoxious and you hear way to much information coming from the kitchen. If it wasn’t for their employees, I would never have considered going back.
As a resident of the South Perry District we were thrilled to see Perry Street cafe open. The food is excellent and the service friendly. It is great to finally have a yummy dining destination on Perry Street!
This is a wonderful neighborhood cafe. And with the excellent food and value for the money, it’s a great place for others, as well! The staff and owners are friendly and welcoming to all.
This is an excellent place! I’ve been here twice (once for breakfast and once for lunch) and both times the food and service was great. Very friendly and welcoming environment. If you want a recommendation: the cinnamon rolls are outstanding!
I’ve lived in Spokane and on the South Hill for over 5 years and had my first breakfast here just a week ago and I loved it. Friendly service, nice cozy atmosphere and great food. Will definitely go back.
The Perry Street Cafe is a wonderful neighborhood gathering place: great people and good food!!
Our first time there and we liked it. By golly, soft poached eggs were perfect… they didn’t come out like a hockey puck we experienced at Perkins. Corned beef hash was some of the best I’ve had…that’s my benchmark test for breakfast. Good attentive service. We’ll come back for sure.
