We recently discovered this hidden gem in the heart of downtown spokane. Wanting some live jazz and a delicious meal, we were not disappointed when strolling up the three flights of stairs to Ella’s Supper club. We had the delight of meeting one of the house chefs Joseph Cicherillo, who hails originally from N.Y. He prepared for us the most succulent sea scallops that were caramelized and tossed with a roasted red pepper and mushroom ragout and also served over angel hair pasta, with just a touch of lemon zest. It was an exemplary experience and one I would recommend highly if your in the area!

My husband took me here on a date when we first moved to Spokane. It was a very pleasant experience. If you have ever driven or walked downtown on First Ave., you’ve probably looked up and noticed the silent picture playing on the building above. This is displayed from the fourth floor above Ella’s Supper Club.
From the third floor you can watch the movie or listen to the wide array of musicians booked to play. The bands are generally pretty good and start later in the evening so patrons can enjoy good conversation, food, and wine.
I like their fries as an appetizer. Very tasty with many dippings, etc. They cook a good steak and had a special last time I was there of a mushroom strudel. It was tasty.
The experience was very pleasant. On a weekend I would say to get there before the music begins at 9pm, because there will be a cover charge unless you spend over $25. Also, I would arrive before the band because it gets a lot busier when they show up and start playing. On the weekend it is best to make a reservation.
Go to Ella’s. It’s fun, entertaining, and something different.

One word: Atmosphere. I don’t frequent many nicer restaurants, but tried Ella’s for my last birthday. This place provides an environment that’s rarely matched. The music from the jazz trio was amazing and could have made up for disappointing food. But, it was not necessary. I ordered a seafood pasta that really didn’t overwhelm me with creativity. However, it was perfectly seasoned and prepared. Ella’s provided a truly wonderful evening.

This place to me redefines the eating experience, I believe there is no better place in all of Spokane. The food is very good and I got the marghertia pizza and my companion got another pizza. They screwed up her pizza and it was so late we really didn’t mind at all and it must of been some very big accident because we didn’t have to pay anything for the meal at all (or drinks!) And the wonderful music made it truly a experience to remember. A little note though: Ask for a table if your going to eat and make reservations because it’s not very fun to be on the benches in the back if you are there for food. A+++ though!

This place is enchanting. My dad was in town visiting from Michigan, so my husband and I took him to Ella’s. We had a wonderful, memorable time. We ordered many appetizers, the one that stuck out was the baked brie with warm chutney. It was delicious. I had a pizza that was scrumptious. You can’t beat the atmosphere either. It’s a little spendy, but worth it. The only drawback is they do not have beer on tap. They just pour it out of the bottle into a glass…but it was so cold I barely noticed. I keep telling everyone to go to Ella’s!!! An amazing experience.
No :-( Mr. Brown's review (Jul 29th 2008)
The food is alright, however, much of the male waitstaff are extremely snooty. Our server was unapologetically short, harried, and obnoxious. I would say not to bother with a reservation on non-weekend nights, it is sadly very slow, for how excellent the music selection was. We noticed that some tables would get bread, and we were never offered, although we had drinks, and both appetizers and entrees, and were there for well over two hours. The atmosphere definitely improves as it gets darker, so head there after sunset. The furniture could use some re-upholstering, however, we did read that it was a non-profit business, so donate, donate, donate!
The drinks (a mandarin martini and a glass of wine) were sub-par, as I doubt there was mandarin in the martini, and the glass of wine was probably from a bottle a couple of days old. The tuna appetizer was very good, but the ella’s fries are horrible. The steak was great, and certainly beat the garlic linguine, which lacked any taste.
